Aboriginal and islander education officer (AIEO)

Kaya, my name is Kylie and I am proud to be working as an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) at High Wycombe Primary school.

My family are Yamatji, and I was born on Noongar Boodja. I feel privileged to bring my cultural knowledge, experiences and understanding of community into my role within the school.

As an AIEO, my role is about much more than supporting students in the classroom. I am here to build trusting and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families, support student wellbeing and engagement, and help create a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

I believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, heard and proud of who they are . Building relationships with students and families is at the heart of what I do. I aim to be a familiar and trusted person for students, someone they can talk to, seek support from and know is there to encourage them throughout their school journey.

I also work alongside teachers and staff to support culturally inclusive practices and to strengthen our understanding and recognition of Aboriginal culture, history and perspectives within our school.

I look forward to working in partnership with our students, families, staff and wider community to create positive connections and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to thrive.
